Detailed Itinerary
8:30 AM — Pickup or Meeting Point in Bayahibe
The experience begins at 8:30 AM with pickup from your hotel in Bayahibe or at an agreed meeting point.
Meet your local guide and receive an introduction to the day's activities before heading toward the Padre Nuestro natural area.
Bayahibe is much more than a gateway to Saona Island. It is a traditional coastal community with a strong connection to fishing, the Caribbean Sea, nature, and Dominican culture.
9:00 AM — Padre Nuestro Ecological Trail
Begin a guided hike through the tropical landscape of Padre Nuestro.
The trail takes you through the characteristic limestone environment of the Bayahibe region. Your guide will explain the area's vegetation, geology, wildlife, and underground freshwater system.
The limestone landscape is particularly important because rainwater can filter through the porous rock, creating underground water systems, caves, and freshwater pools.
Along the trail, keep an eye out for tropical plants, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.
10:00 AM — Cueva de Chicho
Continue along the trail to Cueva de Chicho, one of the area's most impressive natural caves.
Enter the cave with your guide and discover its limestone formations and clear freshwater pool.
You will have time to explore the cave and swim in the freshwater inside Cueva de Chicho.
The cool underground water provides a refreshing experience and offers a completely different perspective of the natural environment surrounding Bayahibe.
Swimming is optional and depends on safety conditions on the day of the tour.
11:30 AM — Return to Bayahibe
After exploring Cueva de Chicho, follow the trail back toward Bayahibe.
Take some time to refresh before continuing with the cultural and culinary part of the experience.
12:30 PM — Local Dominican Lunch
Enjoy a traditional local Dominican lunch in Bayahibe.
Rather than a typical resort buffet, the experience focuses on local flavors and the food culture of the community.
After lunch, enjoy a fresh tropical fruit batida, prepared with seasonal local fruit.
Your guide can introduce you to some of the tropical fruits commonly enjoyed in the Dominican Republic and explain their importance in local cuisine.
Bayahibe Cultural Walking Tour

Bayahibe Public Beach
Continue to Bayahibe Public Beach, where you can experience the relaxed atmosphere of the local community and appreciate the Caribbean coastline.
Unlike the private beaches associated with large resorts, the public beach gives visitors a closer look at how local residents enjoy their coastal environment.
Flor de Bayahibe and Local Wildlife
Discover the Flor de Bayahibe
During the experience, your guide will introduce you to the Flor de Bayahibe, the national flower of the Dominican Republic and an important symbol of the country's natural heritage.
You will learn about this unique cactus, its connection to the Bayahibe area, and why it was chosen as the national flower.
Look for West Indian Manatees
During the Bayahibe portion of the tour, we will also keep an eye out for West Indian manatees, one of the most fascinating and endangered aquatic mammals found in the Dominican Republic.
Manatee sightings are possible but are not guaranteed. Their presence depends entirely on their natural movements, water conditions, visibility, weather, and whether the animals are in the areas we visit on the day of your tour.
If we spot a manatee, your guide will point it out and we will observe it from a respectful distance without touching, feeding, chasing, or disturbing the animal.
The goal is to enjoy the sighting while protecting these wild animals and their natural behavior.
We never alter the itinerary or disturb wildlife in an attempt to create a sighting.
3:00–3:30 PM — End of the Tour
After completing the walking tour, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel or the original meeting point in Bayahibe.
You leave with a deeper understanding of Bayahibe — not only as a destination for Saona Island excursions, but as a living Dominican fishing community surrounded by caves, freshwater, protected natural areas, beaches, and Caribbean culture.
